Building Construction Details

Fetterville Sales has many standard features we build into our post-construction buildings. As you consider the design and size of your structure, you can help keep your building cost-effective by using Standard Lengths and Widths. See the chart and diagrams below.

Our pole buildings can be built in almost any size. You determine the size that fits your needs. However, working with “typical” increments is economically beneficial to you. The most common widths and lengths can be found in the chart below. Ceiling heights typically come in 8′, 10′, 12′, 14′, and 16′ heights.

After you’ve determined your commercial pole building, pole barn garage, equestrian barn, or agricultural building size, your building site should be graded to prepare the site. The site should be graded a minimum of 3′ larger all the way around the building. Ex: a 30′ x 40′ building should have a leveled area 36′ x 46′. It is highly recommended that you have your site graded well before the building is built.

Building Pad Steps and Final Excavation

Preparation
new agricultural barn model

It is critical that you prepare the building site before leveling to remove all obstructions and items that could affect the base quality. This includes removing all debris, large rocks and trees as well as any buried objects such as old underground tanks. If you remove trees, make sure you remove the roots and backfill the space to create a solid base layer. Clear an area wide enough to allow workers and equipment to maneuver around the building site, preferably 4’ all around. If pad is not to be leveled before start, your build will resemble building as seen here. This can be done if building site is within 12” of being level, but not preferred. If concrete is being installed in the future, you will need to have a level and packed site. (Speak with your Sales Rep for more questions or details on this topic)

Install Stone

It is preferred that a 2” stone base as seen here to minimize mess for crew and helps keep materials cleaner as installation occurs. This also helps keep the work site clean and less mud tracking throughout construction.

Final Grading
standard features of a barn

When building construction is complete you will need to do final grading around building perimeter. You will need to grade dirt just below the “Base Angle Trim” as seen here, be sure to keep any dirt from sitting against the building exterior metal, this will void metal warranties if rust or corrosion occurs in the future.
